Summer days are here again; so is the buzz that cricket brings. Just the kind of days that makes a group of people gather around some food and drink and cheer the team they are rooting for, or discuss about the matches of the past and predict results of the next. It is with this in mind that California Pizza Kitchen has introduced The Platter Fest all over the country.
While I have been to California Pizza Kitchen many times and in many places, ironically I have never visited the one practically next door to home, the one at Infinity II, Malad. And this is where we decided to take a look at what the Platter and Drinks promotion is all about.

It being a Monday, the place had only a few diners. A look at the promo menu told us there were The Platter Fest had three kinds of platters; the Vegetarian Platter ( INR 645), the Non-Vegetarian Platter (INR 695) and the Combo Platter (INR 665), which is a mix and match from the veg and non-veg platters. The platters are substantial enough to be easily shared between two people and have a variety of flavours to suit the Indian palate. Each of the platters comprise of 6 dishes from CPK’s popular appetizers served with salsa, sour cream and chilli cheese dip.

In the Vegetarian Platter, we liked the Mediterranean Rolls with its assortment of vegetables in Mozzarella & Parmesan cheese blend, the strong presence of tomatoes which went well with the cheese. The slightly spicy Mexican Quesadilla was the star of this platter with its black bean sauce and Cheddar to which Serrano pepper & onion had been added.

The Non-Vegetarian Platter suited our palate better and we thought the Cilantro Baked Chicken was the pick of the platter with the Basa tasting very fresh. The ever popular Chipotle Grilled Chicken was as usual truly wonderful, absolutely melt in the mouth and full of flavor. The never fail BBQ Chicken Wings were declared sure shot winners. The Sonora Chicken Rolls had filling which was heavy on the cheese and drowned the taste of chicken. The Fish Fingers were standard fare while the Chicken Basil Bruschetta had the distinct flavour of basil which we enjoyed.

To wash it all down, is 3 choices of beveragesthe Orange Mojito Cocktail/Mocktail , Mango Ecstasy Cocktail/Mocktail and Electric Blue Mojito Cocktail/Mocktail – each one at INR 395/– I enjoyed the freshness of the Mango Ecstasy Cocktail with its fresh watermelon chunks in mango puree and a topping of sparkling water.  The Electric Blue Cocktail with is Blue Curacao topping was a touch too sweet for me, but the Orange Mojito is summery and light with orange juice, lemon and mint.

The Platter Fest is currently on – from 8th March to 31st March. Loaded platters, summery drinks & T-20 cricket – every reason to flock to the closest CPK. Large screens to watch the matches would definitely have been a major plus.
