Chicken Tikka, Chicken 65, Paneer Makhani, Mango Lassi, and Kheer among others. Chicago has many Indian restaurants dedicated to all of these. But so far, no one has come closer to home like the ones found in Punjab and Delhi. All that changes once you step inside Sher-A-Punjab; an ordinary looking restaurant with extra-ordinary service.
I strongly believe that a food becomes tastier if served with a smile. And no, my wife did not tell me to write this!! We were greeted with a broad smile the moment we stepped-in. The food aroma was reminiscent of a Punjabi dhaba by nehar (नहर) side on a warm Indian summer evening,
Sher-A-Punjab has options to order food from chef’s kitchen or serve oneself at the buffet spread. Buffet comes with side dishes like Samosa, Chaat Papri and Cutlet size Dosa and six vegetarian options in the main course – Daal Makhani, Saag Paneer, Mattar Paneer, Saambhar, Dosa and Chana Masala. Non-veg options include Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, and Mutton Ghosht. Sweet dishes include Gulaab Jamun, Rice Pudding (Kheer) and Mango Ice Cream.
We always order our food from chef’s kitchen. The best part is that restaurant goes out of its way to please its guests by preparing dishes on demand; even if they are not on the menu. Our favorite here is Paneer Bhurji with gravy and Onion Kulcha. The Kulcha is crisp from outside, yet it melts in the mouth with its first bite.
Another reason for us to frequent Sher-A-Punjab is the attention to health and wellness. The sodium and salt content are delicately managed in the food. The health conscious should know that if you feel thirsty after every bite of food then the food has high sodium content. Remember, salt and sodium is the number one killer. You need to manage them for health and wellness reason.
Now let’s talk about the prices. Prices are nominal from Chicago standards. $7.95 (Rs 360) for lunch buffet and $9.95 (Rs 450) for dinner buffet. Individual dishes has varying prices from $7.95 to $12.95.
When in Chicago, give it a shot. Say my name if you know me and you will get extra discount as well.

Good start Abhi. Look forward to many more from you. Cheers!
Food is cheaper than UK – I have been to Chicago few years back – On next trip will try this one. Photos look impressive and tempting. Normally, Indian waiters are expressionless – If food has been served with smile – that makes eating enjoyable. You did not mention whether the owners are Punjabi? I am firm believer authentic food can only served by individuals from the state that is serving the cuisine.
all the best abhi….. would surely looking forward for more…..
