Meerut city is full of surprises. Every time I visit here I am able to stumble upon decade old shops serving their specialty cuisines. And most of them have maintained high standards in taste over time.
Desirous to have Tandoori snacks, I was referred to a family run joint in the name of “Hans Raj Chicken Corner”. The place had a live barbeque grill in front of the shop. Smoky aroma of fresh meet and spices filled the air. I could see chicken, mutton and fish available in all variety ranging from seekh, tikka,
sausage, salami, lollipop etc. All ready to be barbequed on order. No place to sit. Just two tall tables for people who want to stand and eat their order.
We asked for Chicken Tikka (Rs.100), Chicken Seekh (Rs.100) and Mutton Seekh (Rs.100). The order arrived within 10 minutes along with mint chutney, fresh onions and lemon piece. One bite and I knew we had hit a jackpot. The meat was succulent, tender and mildly spiced. They were barbequed to perfection and served at just the right temperature to eat. Chicken Seekh was even softer than Mutton as it should be. Having said that, I found the Mutton Seekh to be among the best I have eaten so far. Three of my senses (Sight, smell and taste) were peaking at the delicacies being consumed. It was then I decided to indulge my 4th sense by using my fingers instead of toothpick to lift my kebabs. They felt really soft and that completed my full eating experience.
Other chicken variety like Lolipop and Tangri looked inviting but we were thoroughly satiated. So, I promised myself and to the owners to indulge in them on my next visit.
I was also fortunate to meet Mr Hans Raj, a quaint old man helping his son Vijay at counter. He told me about the 20 years history of his business with a dignified pride. Both of them were very courteous. They purposefully do barbeque offering only to be known as specialists. And specialists they are.
It was a true culinary discovery for me. A place highly recommended for anyone going to Meerut.

Had Mutton Seekh Kebabs, Chicken Tikka and Fish Fry at this joint last weekend (31st Dec, 2011). Found them to be of the same high quality as when I had them first time and put up the above post. Tender, Juicy and delicious. Consistency maintained is a good sign of high quality on offer. A MUST visit on your Meerut trip.
