Tea is known as nature’s ‘Wonder Drug’ with revitalizing and soothing properties. No wonder it is the second most consumed liquid in the world, after water. Still, we see hordes of coffee shop mushrooming around the city, but there aren’t many who focus on tea.
The Tea Room Company (name may sound a little strange for a tea cafe) realized the potential and set up one of its initial outlets in Gurgaon. The place is small but has a comfy lounge set-up. The 31-variety tea range is exclusive and available at pocket friendly prices of Rs59 onwards with quantity sufficient for two guests. We tasted the Citrose Infusion Tea (59; flavors of rose petals, lemon grass and citrus from orange peel) and their top of line, Peony Rosette (180; leaves are hand-sewn into rosette). Both were flavorful, smelled good, and relaxed our nerves. The masala chai (59) was just the way it should be; refreshing and masaledaar.
The café offers Mexican and Italian dishes which aren’t authentic but tasty none-the-less. One should not miss the veg Nachos (150); thin, crisp, flavorful and fresh. Topped up with finely cut onions, tomato, jalapeno chili, coriander, and sour cream guacamole (avocado based) served along with dips – nice salsa this is certainly a hit for all age groups. Veg Chimi Changas (189) was a clear disappointment. It was completely dry, and was left untouched. Mushroom Enchilada and Penne in Arabita Sauce (175 each), had good size servings and tasted well, whereas Chicken Fajitas (410) was as good as any other place in Gurgaon.
The Tea Room Company deserves a visit for good tea and definitely their nachos. Still a little work on service, which is a tad slow, will be much appreciated.
