There is something common to both Punjabi’s and American’s – Those big sized comforting meals, and hence no doubt American food chains immediately strike a connection with us. The 200- Cover Chili’s has been around for almost a year and it was buzzing with action when I paid a trip for a weekday lunch. The music is nice without being loud, and seating comfortable for a non-fine dining restaurant.
Starting with Triple Dipper (Rs300), consisting of South Western Egg rolls, Chicken Crispers and Chicken Wings served with three different dips, I am hooked. Chicken Wings stand out with the tangy marination, which is unusual but nicer. Someone had once told me about the Chili’s cup (125) made with beef mince, beans, cheese and their secret spices. Very comforting however this being a Mexican dish, Chili’s level was subdued for Indian palette. This can be a complete meal for an average sized human.
I was served Presidenta Margarita (375), named after President of Mexico who mixed this drink for himself on his maiden trip to Chili’s. This was a potent mix of Brandy, Tequila and Cointreau with a sweet-sour mix. The best part was that it was served in a personal shaker, and I could manage almost 3 fillings from the one drink I ordered.
Pork Ribs (800) was cooked to perfection and that similar sweet-tangy secret sauce that I experienced earlier in wings, while Fajita Trio (450) is an interesting concept where one makes their own Fajitas. Chicken, Shrimps and Steak (all grilled) are served along with Guatemala, sour cream and other chopped salsa mixes are served along with wraps to make personalised Fajitas. I felt like an expert sitting and making those simple but tasty fajitas as per my liking.
Only thing which I did not like as much were the popular Big Mouth Bites burger (325). The tenderloin patty was a tad dry and I could get any taste of smoked bacons. The Chocolate Chip Paradise Pie at Rs 200 is a steal. Excellent chocolate & walnut pie with Vanilla icecream, Caramel and sliced walnut, like most dishes, is good enough for two.
Most dishes at Chili’s are perfected over their long journey, however some have been modified for Indian sensibilities. This is a great place for all TGIF lovers which offers double the quantity at almost half the cost and strongly recommended for a visit.
