Uber Lounge. I found the name to be a little unusual when I got an invite from a friend. On visiting the articulately done lounge spread over two floors, my inquisitiveness led me to ask the manager on reason behind this unique name. This, I was told is a German word meaning “Above All” and that it defines the essence of the place. The Sufi music running in the background (DJ plays Sufi music on Wednesday nights) added to the much required relaxed environment during the hectic weekday. However, I still had to find out if the experience lived up to the name .
We decided to order a Non Veg Assorted Platter (Rs 425) and a Chicken Satay (Rs 325), along with a Caprioska and Sangria. The drinks and starters were served with a lightning speed. The Non Veg Platter was served as a sizzler and consisted of Malai Murgh, Surkh Murgh, Mutton Seekh and Fish Tikka. Each of these was nice and cooked well, but the Fish Tikka was outstanding. While the Chicken Satay was also done well, the peanut sauce served along was actually routine peanut butter available at any counter in city these days. The drinks were a big disappointment; Sangria was not cold enough and despite having fruit chunks did not have any fruity flavour. Seems a glass of wine was instantly added with fruit and passed on as Sangria. The Caprioska was too sweet and did not have the much required fresh mint leaves in it.
For the main course we requested for Grilled Basa Fish (Rs 395) and Grilled Chicken (Rs 395). The helpings for both the dishes were adequate for an average Indian appetite. Served with lemon butter sauce and mashed potatoes, the Chef must have followed precision to grill the fish capturing the juices yet giving it a crisp crust. Similarly the Chicken was grilled very well and the BBQ sauce enhanced the flavours.
To end our experience at Uber, we settled for Classic Fruit and Nut Sundae (Rs 210). We were amazed to see the helping which could have easily suffixed for a group of four. Beautifully garnished with fresh fruit, the Sunday was a delight.
Drinks form a very important part of menu at a lounge and the same being not up to the mark can lead to customers dissatisfaction though Chef did a good job.
