The Westin, Gurgaon has been organizing a culinary academy where the hotel chefs, through an interactive session, have been teaching 4-5 dishes of different cuisines to people. This was the first time that they had a kid’s special cooking session as part of the newly launched Westin Eat Well Kids Menu. Westin has teamed up with “Dr. Greg’s Super Chefs ” (a group of doctors, dentists and dietitians dedicated to educating kids on the importance and fun of eating smart) for the same , where kids get down to cooking.
The menu was very meticulously planned keeping all the kids’ favourite food in mind and were paired with whole foods to boost their nutritional benefits and flavor thus making a healthy difference. Each child and parent duo was handed over a folder with four individually printed recipes of chicken fingers, pancakes, pasta and pizzas with easy to follow instructions along with an apron for each young chef.
The kids very taken patiently through each and every recipe with the chefs, explaining the ingredients and procedures along with their health benefits and providing some tips as well. Needless to say, the kids had a ball of a time and thoroughly enjoyed their first cookery class. They specially enjoyed the pizza making as they were given the pizza dough and were asked to hand press it down into a base after which they got to top the pizzas with their chosen ingredients. The kids were very serious about the class and were fully attentive.
This was a lovely initiative by Westin to introduce healthy cooking skills in kids early and maybe even pave the way for future chefs of tomorrow. At the end, to further boost the morale of the kids, each kid was given a certificate and treated to an awesome buffet. What more could they want !
The day after the cooking class, my younger son made me measure out ingredients after which he made yummy pancakes and even took them to school in his lunch box. So I think that sums up the benefit of Westin’s cooking class pretty well.
