Sofitel Mumbai is one of those few five star properties that keep reinventing themselves through continuous innovative F&B promotions. In the past we have seen them hosting food festivals in their restaurants ranging from a Charcuterie experience to traditional regional Palanpuri festival.

This time however, Sofitel has decided to do something different and launched a one of its kind wine extravaganza that will last forty days in its hotel and will span over the three restaurants of the hotel. During these forty days, the hotel shall showcase wines from seven wineries – Hugel & Fils, Bouchard Pere Fils, William Fevre, Paul Jaboulet, Perrin, Miraval, Gerard Bertrand and Dourthe with menus meticulously crafted to pair with these wines.

At the launch of this extravaganza, we had a chance to try the tapas style dishes created by Chef Inderjit Saha, these dishes were exquisitely paired by the expert sommelier Sanjay Menon who was also present at the moment.

Though we had missed out on the first round of the tapas and wine presentation, the hosts courteously offered us the Champagne Drappier. Amongst the pass around snacks we tried Prawn pops with pickle powder, paneer tikka with smoked pepper couille, Chicken tikka with Chilli foam and a Subz ki Shikampuri served with some watermelon cubes and feta cheese and a very interesting Pathar ke kebab. While talking with the chef, I was very happy to know that the chef also wants to hosts several regional lesser known Indian food festivals as well as promote wine pairings and festivals with most of them.

Amongst the good wines we tried during the evening, I particularly loved the velvety smooth intense Clarendelle AOC Bordeaux Rouge with a medium finish and a lot of black fruits and soft spices on the palate. Similarly in the whites, I preferred the La Vieille Ferme Blanc which was a light but crisp wine with a lot of fruity notes. The limey acidity of the wines worked well with the shikampuri that it was paired with. A commendable effort has been done by the hotel to keep a good wine list and that too in great condition.

The wine days at Sofitel start from the 22nd of September and shall last till the 31st of October and can be enjoyed in the following order (As per press release of the hotel) :-
