I last visited JW Marriott, Delhi over two years ago when it had just opened and while I loved the food and the spread, service was amiss that time. This Valentine’s Day I revisited K3, the all-day dining food theatre at JW Marriott.
The restaurant is buzzing with guests and I soon see the entire place packed. Of course, Valentine’s Day is an important day for all to show their love and for many, the way to their loved one’s heart is through good food. Live music in the background, flowing wines and the amazing barbeque spread are enough for me to get started. The barbeque section has all kind of live grills but my favorite is the seafood station. River sole, sea bass, red snapper, grouper, pomfret, mackerel and prawns are available in abundance and I can have my entire meal here. And yes, there are oysters in the menu too !
Executive Chef Girish Krishnan, who I met in my last visit, recognizes me and tells me that they get the entire sea food specially flown in the previous evening to serve it fresh. Most people say that they serve fresh sea food but the flavors and texture of each fish confirms the chef’s statement. My favorite here is the fish in sarson marination and prawns in hot red masala.
I spend more time at the barbeque section and try their galouti and the peking duck. Galouti is excellent though the pancake in which peking duck is served is breaking. Perhaps this is the only small glitch that I could notice in one of the widest buffet spreads that I have seen in Delhi. Not an easy task to manage for such a huge spread.
The restaurant endeavours to periodically highlight one particular cuisine amongst many in an excellent spread and this month it is the turn of Italian cuisine. While we try many dishes from the Italian menu, Chef Giovanni Ricci offers us some Aranchini. I have never been fond of aranchini but this is an absolutely must try here. Mixed with extra cheese and pesto, it is one of the moistest aranchini I have had. The warm gesture from the chef to personally visit each table is by itself commendable.
The spread never comes to an end with the choicest cheeses, salads, dimsum, chaat counter, oriental dishes and the lavish Indian dishes. A special section on freshest and local Indian vegetables serves methi-aloo and a few other dishes and my vegetarian wife quickly grabs more than a bit of them. I, meanwhile, gorge on the biryani and the mutton dishes.
Just like the other courses, the desserts spread has many offerings too. While I am not a dessert person, Tiramisu by Chef Giovanni Ricci is decadent.
Undoubtedly, Sunday brunch at K3 is one of the best in the city and given the spread, one would never get bored of the multiple visits.
And before I end. The service too was great this time inspite of the full house !
