When the name is The Irish House, one tends to think “beer”, despite the fact that The Irish House has an extensive bar and food menu. What one doesn’t associate with the name is breakfast, and that’s just we were there for! With visions of big fat breakfast platters on our mind, we dropped in to The Irish House at Pali Hill, Bandra. The location is such that the pub is could find many morning walkers and even the early visitor to the local sabziwala might drop in for a coffee. Thus that’s what we asked for – Cappuccino for me and a Latte for my friend Suprio (both INR 95). Was disappointed there weren’t any fresh juices to start the day, the stuff on offer came from cans and tetrapacks – breakfast without fresh juices is quite a miss. The coffee wasn’t strong enough to wake me up, Irish Pub will definitely have to make their coffee stronger, weak coffee in the mornings is a big no no!
The breakfast menu is a standard one, the kind one finds on almost all menus – the bread, eggs, waffles, salad, fruit kind. We asked for a serving of Eggs Benedict (INR 175) and a Frittata (INR 195)along with a portion of Ragi Bread. The Frittata was quite good and came with a side of potato wedges and a small portion of garden fresh salad. As for the Eggs Benedict, I happen to like mine loaded and overflowing with Hollandaise Sauce and I believe Irish House would need to be a tad more generous with it to make the dish more visually appealing and that would go a long way in titillating the tastebuds. The eggs on the Eggs Benedict were poached perfectly with the yolk nice and runny and came with a side of crispy bacon and potato wedges.
I needed a good coffee spike and thus asked for a double Expresso – still too weak for me. Either I have my coffee strong enough to wake up the dead or Irish House serves coffee for the faint hearted!
By now, we needed a sure shot something good and thus we asked for a portion of Home Style Waffles (INR 150) which came with the promise to be loaded with goodies – not bad at all as it had fresh fruit, honey, a taste of chocolate, and was nicely topped with fresh cream – more like dessert at breakfast.
I believe Irish House is still a tad new to the breakfast scene. Given the wonderful breakfast options at Bandra, taking the menu and options a notch higher will go a long way in getting the crowd flowing in – again and again. At the moment, it is a fine menu if one is thinking of a regular breakfast, would love to see more variety when we visit next.
Wishing The Irish House all the best..
