I had been to Grandmama’s Café, Dadar outlet. It is such a cute place with cuter décor and wonderful vibe. When I heard that they are opening their third outlet in Juhu, I was glad. No need to travel all the way to Lower Parel or Dadar for the delicious Kajriwal Egg at Grandmama’s café now. Thus we were there on Day 2 of the opening of the Juhu outlet. It was packed and there were many waiting outside. Wow. That’s sure a grand opening and a very good sign for a 2 days old outlet. There were few tables outside too; all occupied.
After 20 minutes we were seated inside. The interior is bright and has a very happy feel to it. Loved the eye for detail in everything from window panes with half net-curtains to the furniture and artefacts. We were looking forward to enjoying the food even more. To start with, we asked for Kajriwal Grandmama’s style (Rs.225). Eggs with cream cheese on top of a bread. It was so delicious. Our expectations were high now. Then we asked for Mushroom A La Plancha (Rs.190) which had sweet balsamic as one of the ingredients. Okay; after the superb Eggs Kajriwal we found the Mushrooms not up to the mark. Never mind; the evening had just begun and there were lots of food to look forward to. We wanted to try a pizza and asked for a recommendation. We were told that the Spicy Chicken Sausage Pizza (Rs.310) was very good but super spicy. We decided to try that out. After all it’s not every day that one finds a pizza with Chilli Oils to make it extra spicy. It’s a 10-inch pizza and actually very spicy. We loved that. But let me tell you, IT IS SPICY. Please don’t order if you can’t handle spice. We saw the people seated at the next table wasting it after 2 slices. Now that’s bad. No Grandmama ever taught us to waste food!
We loved the Four Cheese Fondue – Yellow Cheddar, Mozzarella, Creamy Feta and American Cheeses (Rs. 230) wonderfully presented in an earthen pot. From their Tiny Bites we ordered a Green Garlic Risotto (Rs. 270).The description of the dish said Creamy Chive Pesto sauce with Okra relish and crispy lotus stem. It was a beautiful looking dish and tasted good. But I prefer my Risotto with a little more cheese and a bit creamier.
In Grandmama’s café, how could we not have their famous shakes! So we had one Belgian Chocolate shake (Rs.190) and absolutely loved that. We also asked for one Thai Ginger Ale (Rs.170) which was really very smooth.
Now the dessert. This time we decided to skip Tiramisus and Cakes, instead opted for Gud Churi Roti (Rs. 125). As the dish said, this one seriously “symbolizes the sweet decadent love of grandmamma”. That aroma of desi ghee and gud / jaggery reminds one of winter.
