Having had hot chocolate as a kid a couple of times, I must admit that I was not a huge fan of it. I would make it with drinking chocolate. But little did I know this was all going to change.
I had gone to the Cup of Warmth, Hot Chocolate Festival in “Chokola” a premium couverture chocolate brand in Cyber Hub. They had six variants of hot chocolate to choose from – Classic Dark Hot Chocolate, Coffee Hot Chocolate, White Vanilla Hot Chocolate, Cinnamon Hot Chocolate, Hazelnut Hot Chocolate and Classic Milk Hot Chocolate.
I went for the classic dark hot chocolate much against my mind set that dark chocolate was going to be bitter. One sip of the creamiest, thick, rich, gooey, decadent hot chocolate and I was a convert. I wanted to savour each sip slowly to be fully satiated – and since they are using 65% couverture (purest form of chocolate with pure extract of coco mass and coco butter), it was not bitter. For those who can handle it stronger, they do have a 75% couverture too. There is no doubt in one’s mind that Chokola is using the best ingredients and does not compromise on quality.
These decadent drinks can be paired with a lot of savoury items from the café menu like Eggs Benedict, Pancakes with whipped cream, Vegetable Pesto, Sandwiches, Bruschetta, Mediterranean flat breads etc. I tried the Eggs Benedict which came with the perfectly poached egg sitting on sautéed spinach and topped liberally with the creamy hollandaise sauce. All I missed was the bacon on my Eggs Benedict but then, Chokola is an eggetarian restaurant. The grilled bell pepper Sandwich in fresh focaccia bread was also a treat.
I am fussy about my macarons and only have the ones from L’Opera but the orange flavoured macaron I had in Chokola was literally love at first bite. The chocolate macaron was also not too far behind. The honeycomb chocolate has to be tried to make one believe how good it is.
Once you taste the quality of Chokolas products, you realise that they are catering to a refined palate. Something which differentiates between the classes and the masses. This is definitely a place with many a repeat value. Even while I write today, I remember all the rich flavours fondly.
