Walking in to Roasted, you are enveloped by the warmth of the wooden interiors, gold accents, and sunlight beaming through the windows. The impressive ceiling high display of TWG (The Wellbeing group) luxury range of tea canisters, Blue Tokai coffee and an array of inviting treats had my friend and moi all geared up to indulge.
As they say, God is in the details and the chefs at Roasted know it too well. The tea is carefully brewed and placed in a ceramic container which is then placed in a golden coloured metal tea pot with a velvet inner lining, all for the optimum flavour. In almost every dessert the sugar is cut with some form of acidity to give it the perfect balance.
We started with The Silver Moon leaf tea, peach flavoured and refreshing, accompanied with the madeleine (very small sponge like cake) which had a hint of lemon. The teas we tried were wholesome and had their own distinct flavour. The Red of Africa with an almost medicinal quality to the self-explanatory Jasmine Queen, Chamomile and Moroccan Mint were on point. My favourite was the Eternal Sunshine tea laced with the essence of Alphonso mangoes. Literally summer in a cup! Every tea was paired with a tea cake or pastry. We sampled the Financier, Banana and walnut cake as well as the Carrot and ginger cake – each one faultless and divine.
Moving on to the savouries, we sampled finger sized bites from the sandwich section. The stars for me were the Quail egg with grain mustard yolk and tobiko (a popular substitute for caviar) and the Organic egg with grain mustard and parsley. The Confit duck arugula with juniper, House cured salmon with lemon cream and apple scented onion,Goat cheese with roast pepper and walnut and Confit coronation chicken with celery stalks and California grapes were par excellence. The bread is toasted with surgical precision, firm enough to hold the filling and soft enough to chew easily. However, the Chicken and wild mushroom Quiche was dry and lacking in the “gooey” quotient and wasn’t at the same level as the others.
We concluded our tasting with two more desserts, J’adore and Mr.Pillow. Don’t you just love it when food looks as good as it tastes?! The former is a work of art, with raspberry coulis tucked in its center while the latter a white chocolate mousse, looks good enough to lay your head on.
Roasted is ideal for business meets, spending time with a loved one or just go alone and experience all the trimmings of a high class café.
