Love Over a Veg Club Sandwich

I remember my Valentine’s Day at school. We were all learning about the significance of this special day, while secretly passing love notes and chocolates to our crushes like it was a black market operation. Our parents were completely oblivious of our escapades.

When a bouquet of roses was delivered to my home on Valentine’s day, I was convinced that I had finally achieved peak popularity. But, alas, my hopes were crushed when my dad intercepted the delivery. Thankfully I narrowly evaded any questioning since Valentine’s day wasn’t as popular as today. Till date, the identity of the sender is a mystery and I secretly hope that the bunch of flowers was sent by a person of the opposite gender and not otherwise 😂

Today, I took my wife to Smoke House Deli for a romantic dinner. The roads were as empty as my wallet. We decided to go vegetarian, because nothing screams “I love you” like giving up meat for one night for your vegetarian spouse. We ordered the veg club sandwich which was surprisingly filling, probably because it was stuffed with a tonne of avocado. Enough to make a millennial proud. This was my first veg club sandwich and I was impressed.

I also tried something called “oak ash,” which I assumed was a fancy name for burnt wood chips. Another dish to make the young crowd happy but it turned out to be a delicious salad with goat’s cheese, oranges and grapes. My wife was so impressed that she refused to eat anything else. This was a win-win for me because I got to polish off all the leftovers like a scavenger.

To top off our romantic evening, we shared a single cup of cappuccino. Well, who needs a fancy dessert when you have each other, right? Wink! Wink! We, obviously, couldn’t forget the rose on the table, because nothing says “I love you” like a plant that will wither and die in a few days.

All in all, it was the most cost-effective Valentine’s Day celebration we’ve ever had. One doesn’t need expensive gifts and fancy dinners when you have each other (and a veg club sandwich)?
